Jiahe Food Approved for National Key R&D Program of the 14th Five-Year Plan

Summary: Recently, the project approval results of the Key Special Program Food Manufacturing and Agricultural Product Logistics Technological Support under the National Key R&D Program of the 14th Five-Year Plan were officially announced. The project entitled Research and Development of Key Technologies for Quality Improvement of Featured Coarse Grains and Creation of New Products, jointly applied by China Agricultural University and Jiahe Food Industry Co., Ltd., has been officially approved. The project will systematically conduct research on core technologies for coarse grain quality upgrading and healthy product innovation, supporting the high-quality development of China’s coarse grain industry and the improvement of national dietary nutrition.

Recently, the official results of project funding under the Key Program of Food Manufacturing and Agricultural Product Logistics Technological Support of the National Key R&D Program during the 14th Five-Year Plan period were released. Led by China Agricultural University and jointly declared by Jiahe Food Industry Co., Ltd., the project Research and Development of Key Technologies for Quality Improvement of Featured Coarse Grains and Development of Innovative Products has been granted funding. It will carry out systematic research on quality enhancement technologies and healthy product innovation for coarse grains, so as to boost high-quality development of China’s coarse grain industry and optimize public dietary nutrition.

With the core goals of quality improvement and health promotion, the project is divided into five sub-projects covering full-chain research and development from raw materials to finished products. The research will systematically analyze the impacts of pre-treatment and typical processing methods on storage quality, sensory properties, nutrient retention and health benefits of coarse grains, establish an adaptive system for coarse grain raw materials, and define the threshold ranges of characteristic indicators for high-quality coarse grains. Meanwhile, it will explore the regulatory effects of precise compounding of various coarse grains on human glucose-lipid metabolism and intestinal function, put forward scientific dietary intake suggestions, and reveal corresponding health mechanisms.

In terms of flavor and processing technologies, based on the principles of flavor complementation and synergistic aroma enhancement, the project will investigate flavor regulation mechanisms of mixed coarse grains, and make breakthroughs in key technologies including flexible pre-treatment of coarse grains, synergistic health effects, flavor harmonization, product stabilization, anti-coagulation and sterilization. The final R&D scope covers functional staple coarse grain foods, healthy and flavorful coarse grain snacks, as well as diversified compound coarse grain beverages. Under this national project, Jiahe Food will mainly undertake the R&D of key quality-improving technologies and development of new products for healthy compound, light-tasting and diversified coarse grain beverages. The company’s Research Institute stated that it will give full play to accumulated experience in technological processing and industrialization, accelerate the commercialization of scientific research achievements, and provide consumers with more nutritious and healthy deep-processed coarse grain products.
